LGBTQIA+ Therapy

What is Queer Therapy?

Queer therapy is both a space and a relationship where all parts of you are welcome. While it can provide support around LGBTQIA+ experiences, it is also a broader way of understanding healing, one that recognizes how social norms, cultural expectations, and systems of power shape our identities, relationships, bodies, and sense of belonging.

Drawing from queer theory, queer therapy invites curiosity about the messages we have received about who we are supposed to be. Together, we might explore questions such as: What expectations have I inherited about gender, relationships, work, family, success, or worth? Which of these feel aligned with who I am, and which feel limiting, constraining, or no longer fit?

For some people, queer therapy is a place to process experiences directly related to being LGBTQIA+, including coming out, gender exploration, relationship dynamics, family relationships, discrimination, or the impacts of living in a world that is not always affirming. For others, one of the most meaningful aspects is the relief of being with a therapist who already understands many of these experiences, allowing more energy to be spent exploring and healing rather than explaining or defending your identity.

As a body-based therapist, I also recognize that cultural expectations do not only live in our thoughts, they are often carried in our bodies, nervous systems, and ways of relating. Many of us learn to adapt, mask, perform, or disconnect from parts of ourselves in order to belong, stay safe, or meet the expectations of others. Together, we can gently explore how these patterns have served you, where they may no longer fit, and what it feels like to reclaim ways of being that are more authentic, connected, and sustainable.

At its heart, queer therapy is rooted in the belief that there is no single "right" way to be a person. Rather than helping you fit into predetermined boxes, our work is guided by curiosity, collaboration, and respect for your lived experience. I see therapy as a relationship where we can explore your experiences together, making room for complexity, contradiction, growth, and the ongoing process of becoming more fully yourself.

Whether you identify as LGBTQIA+ or are simply seeking a therapeutic space that values authenticity, self-determination, and liberation from limiting norms, queer therapy offers an opportunity to explore who you are and how you want to live, with support, curiosity, and care.
